Idol Envy: Top 9 - Rock & Roll

Sorry I've been MIA as of late. A wedding down in Redlands, bonding with the niece and nephews, Wondercon (comic convention in the city, which I worked) and just plain being tired have kept me from focusing on the blog. But what a results show!

This week the Top 9 honored the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and these guys and gals brought there A game.

Here's the breakdown of Songs from last night

Casey Abrams - Have You Ever Seen the Rain
It was nice to see a more controlled Casey, this toned down version of himself is what will keep him in the competition, but the next time he goes a little aggro on stage America will not be calling in.

Hayley Reinhart - Piece of My Heart
I like Hayley and want to see her stick around, she gave a great performance, it wasn't perfect but she is fun. When she hits her mid range she sounds stellar, love the growls.

Jacob Lusk - Man in the Mirror
Jacob has a great voice and really is a Diva trapped in a man's body. He gave a great performance but was a little overshadowed by having Siedah Garrett (who co-wrote the song) as his "duet" partner, did this help or harm him??

James Durbin - While My Guitar Gentle Weeps
This is James's "Mad World" moment, we get to see his softer side. When the song began I wasn't sure if I was gonna love it, but by that end note there was no doubt. I loved the performance and I think this will be the first Idol download of the season for me.

Lauren Aliana - (You Make Me Feel Like a ) Natural Woman
Lauren, maybe this wasn't the best choice for this week. Lauren has been compared to one Miss Kelly Clarkson all season and for those of us that watched that first season, we remember Kelly's performance and how much she rocked that song. There really should be a rule that says if a past winner sang it, off limits because comparisons will be a coming. With that said, I thought she did a good job, but will be calling like a mo fo to keep her around because I do like this girl.

Paul McDonald - Folsom City Blues
I don't know what to think of Paul. I like that his has this unique voice and out there personality, but when I'm shopping for music will I be adding his to my cart?? Thinking back on last night's performance, Paul did a great good, being in the Bottom 3 really does scare the shit out of you. I still don't think this was the right song for him, there are plenty other Johnny Cash songs out there that I feel would have worked better for him.

Pia Toscano - River Deep Mountain High
Well, after 2 weeks of being asked to give us an uptempo number Pia delivered with the Ike & Tina Turner classic, "River Deep, Mountain High" I freaking love this song (as well as the Glee version), but wasn't feeling Pia. Yes, she sounded great and hit those notes but I wanted just a little bit more from this performance, Tina had this energy when she was on stage that Pia doesn't have yet.

Scotty McCreedy - That's Alright
I'm bored with Scotty, each week it's the same performance for me. He has yet to wow me, Middle America & the South must love this kid, but he still isn't getting one of my votes.

Stefano Langone - When a Man Loves a Woman
Why are you still here?? Of all the guys, Stefano is the weakest. Remember last week's result song group numbers, when he performed with James, Paul, and Casey? When he's singing with another person who's voice is better you can definately hear that his isn't quite up to par, hence why America didn't vote him into the Top 12.

On a side note, the website votefortheworst.com has chosen Paul McDonald as their Idol poster boy, I personally think Stefano is way worst but that's just me. Past vote for the worst Idol hopefulls include Sanjaya and last season's cutie Tim Urban.

My votes went to James, Lauren, and Hayley

My guesses for the bottom were Stefano, Scotty, and possibly Lauren and boy was I WRONG!

Results Show quick recap!

Ryan brings 3 contestants up at a time, revealing that one is in the Bottom 3

Group 1: Stefano, Lauren, and Casey - my guess is that Stefano is not safe this week and I'm right.

Group 2: Paul, Scotty, and Pia - my guess would be either Scotty or Paul; Ryan reveals Pia is in the bottom for the first time.

Group 3: James, Jacob, and Hayley - My guess would be either Hayley or possibly Jacob and it is Jacob.

The Bottom 3 stand as Stefano, Pia, and Jacob. My hope is that Stefano finally says goodbye, but I'm shocked as the rest of America when Ryan reveals it's the end of the road for Pia. I honestly thought she was gonna be the Last Girl Standing and making it as far as the Final 3. Pia was asked to perform a swan song and she chose "I'll Stand by You" and gave one of the best Swan Songs in the competition. I bet the judges are kicking themselves for saving Casey 2 weeks ago.

Idol Envy: S10 Top 12 - Song List & Results Show

The night started on a serious note, in light of recent events in Japan all proceeds from Itunes downloads of last night's Idol performances will be going to the American Red Cross, so you should go download at least one song from last night to help the cause.

Now onto the show, last night's theme was Songs the contestants birth year, with the oldest contestants this year being 26!

Naima Adedapo started the night off with the Tina Turner classic "What's Love got to do with it" from the year 1984! I like that Naima is taking risks by doing these big songs, but I don't think this is where she's most comfortably. She was pitchy throughout the performance, and I was worried when she started because it was terrible; she so much better than what she's been giving us. Girlfriend is in trouble this week because being inconstant sends you home.

Also from 1984 comes Paul McDonald with the Elton John hit, "I guess that's why they call it the blues". Now Paul was under the weather and he did struggle a little bit with some of the notes, but overall he did a stellar job. He has amazing stage presence and I can easily see him as a front man for some band.

Thia Megia took me back to my freshmen year of high school (1995) with her rendition of Vanessa Williams "Colors of the Wind" from Disney's Pocahontas. What Thia had going for her with this performance was that it was beautifully staged; she gave a steady/solid performance but it was safe and boring. I'm waiting for her to show us more than just the ballads. I know you have a beautiful voice, let's see some personality, sing outside the box. Thia will last another week, so hopefully we'll get to see a different side to her.

James Durbin, born in 1989, gave us some Bon Jovi with "I'll be there for you". Now, I know the boy has been compared to Adam Lambert and tonight that's who he was channelling (naughty thought just popped in my mind... hee hee hee) okay back to business, overall I was not in love with this performance, but his killer high note was awesome and the fact that Steven Tyler said he'd sing with James if he made it to the final is reason enough to vote in through another week. and Steven said it best, James is a rich vein of inner crazy.

Okay, Hayley Reinhart brought the first of the two Whitney Houston songs that were featured last night. When I had Whitney and 1990 my mind went straight to The Bodyguard and I Will Always Love You and I was like please don't try and tempted that. Lucky for me, she didn't and went with "I'm your baby tonight", which is one of my favorite songs by Miss Houston. And honestly, Hayley was all over the place, very pitchy and sounded off, and poor girl was having lipstick malfunctions to boot. The best part of the performance was the bridge and her end notes, but I don't think that will be enough to save her from tonight's bottom three.

Oh, Stefano Langone, I don't want to like you, I don't know why you bug me, you just do. But damn it, was that not a fracking amazing performance?? Stefano killed Simply Red's 1989 it "If you don't know me". That was the best performance of the night and guaranteed him through to next weeks show.

Pia Toscano also had a great performance with the other Whitney Houston classic, 1988's "Where do broken hearts go?" But honestly, thinking back, it's this performance I can't remember. Pia has a great voice but isn't quite as memorable as some of the other contestants, she'll last but not sure how long.

And then there's Scotty McCreery, who of course did country proud with his version of Travis Triat's 1993 song, "Can I trust my heart?" Of all the guys I think Scotty has the best tone,but if you close your eyes and just listen Scotty's voice sounds like every other male country artist out there, so I'm torn with this guy. I do want to see him tackle other genres and countrify them, especially Disco.

Karen Rodriquez, doing her better J-Lo impression, sang Taylor Dayne's 1989 hit "Love will lead us back" I'm sorry, Karen, but love ain't leading you anywhere but the bottom 3. The girl is trying... way to hard to be J-Lo, I get it she's her Idol, but enough I want to see more Karen. Aside from the weak performance, the outfit was awful and did not work with her song choice, if she was singing Disco, she had the outfit. Even through this performance was a slight and I mean slight better performance than last week, girlfriend is in trouble.

Casey, Casey, Casey, took balls taking on Nirvana's first hit 1991's "Smells like teen spirit". Was it a risk that paid off? Not quite sure, the combination of the stage lighting (which was a cool yellowish color), Casey's intense facial expressions and the fact he has a red beard made it kind of a creepy performance. I wonder if you play that performance backwards what would happen??

Lauren Alaina went to Melissa Etheridge's classic "I'm the only one" as you birth year song (1994). I love that she brought a country feel to the song and Lauren was twenty times better than she was last week. I loved it and she made a fan out of me.

We end the night with Jacob Lusk and Heart's "Alone" (1987). This is a big song and Jacob has the voice to do it proud but something was off. The arrangement was off to me and Jacob struggled to keep the pace, even the high note didn't work. I don't know what Randy was listening/watching because I felt Jacob missed the mark with this one.

My guesses for the Bottom 3: Karen, Hayley, & Naima

My votes went to James and Lauren.

So, I missed the actually show and in my search to find a video, which I couldn't find because no one's posted anything yet, I found out who got the boot.

My guesses for the bottom 3 were on the money this week and of the 3 Karen was my choice to say goodbye and she was! No judge's save tonight (thank you judges). So here's to next week...

Idol Envy: Top 13 Results Show

After sleeping on last night's performances and trolling the interwebs and reading what others had to say about the show, I've decided to name the following three as tonight's potential Bottom 3: Karen Rodriguez, Lauren Alaina, and Paul McDonald (I think he's safe and won't be in the bottom 2). Am I right? Let's watch and see....

8:02 pm So, we learn the Judge's Save is back this year, and if they use it tonight will be a shocker. Musical guests are Dirty Diddy Money and Adam Lambert

Now on to a video rubbing it in to all those cut last week. The tour of their Beverly Hills Mansion sponsored by Ford (that pool table was sweet though).

Oh look the first Idol group performance of the season. A tribute to Michael Jackson, and here's the interesting things I noticed with this performance
- For Scotty having such a deep voice, why could I not hear him??
- Karen sounds ten times better, but is still in trouble from last night.
- Stefano please go home, that was bad I'm switching him for Paul.
- Naima & James were awesome

8:16pm More push to have us see the Twilight inspired Red Riding Hood, which I will probably end up seeing.

Ryan calls Jacob, Karen, and Stefano to the center of the stage. If only one is in the bottom, Karen's performance was probably the worst of the three so my guess is Karen, but I hope it's Stefano.

8:21pm As I thought Karen is revealed to be one of tonight's bottom 3

8:26pm And we are back. Welcome back Adam. Aftermath is one of the few songs I enjoyed from his album (overall wasn't totally in love with it). But I did love this performance.

8:30pm I love it when Ryan flirts with Adam

8:35pm Can we get this show rolling?? Okay, Lauren, Ashton, and Hayley are called. Of the three, Lauren probably had the weakest performance going first is not always a good thing especially on a 2 hour show. I am liking the fact she's admitting she made a mistake and thank you Ryan for not dragging it out (Lauren is safe). So, I hope Ashton is in the bottom because I did like Hayley more.

8:40pm Ashton & Hayley are in the bottom, and everyone else is safe. I feel cheated now that was too fast. Stupid two musical guest cutting in on my nervous Idol time. Anyway, last night I had guessed Karen and Ashton were in trouble and I was right. But of my choices for tonight's bottom three I was 1 for 3.

8:45pm Diddy Dirty Money performance, this I could have done without.

8:55pm Okay who's going home... Not Karen (I thought it was gonna be her)... Not Hayley so it's Ashton!!

8:56pm Ashton is given another chance and has decided to sing Diana Ross again and it sounds worse tonight for some reason. This is your time to shine, this performance was so dim. If the judges use the save tonight they are stupid, it's way to soon in the competition and besides America did not vote her through last week for a reason.

IDOL ENVY IS BACK!!!

That's right kids, I'm back. And just in time for this week's Top 13 performance. Now, I did watch last week's results show and got a chance to listen to the "wild cards" sing and honestly the only one that caught my attention was Naima. So with a fresh ear, I'll be giving you all my thoughts on the lucky 13.

This week's theme was to sing a song by the contestants personal Idol, let's see how they did.

Lauren Alaina
Idol: Shaina Twain & Song: Any Man of Mine
Not the best way to start the show, it was kinda karaokeish. I think You're Still the One would have been a better song to sing since that song would have showcased her tone. If Lauren does stick around she will need to take it to the next level, a pretty voice only gets you so far in this competition.

Casey Abrams
Idol: Joe Crocker & Song: A Little Help From My Friends
I'm not a fan of the beard, but I can overlook that since you gave a damn fine performance. Casey is a natural on the stage and has great charm/charisma. A very solid performance, Lauren dear, I'd be worried.

Ashton Jones
Idol: Diana Ross & Song: When You Tell Me You Love Me
I'm gonna be honest, Ashton did not wow me last week with her version of And I'm Telling You and tonight was the same. She's trying to hard to give us Diva, honey just sing. Yes she has great stage presence, a lovely voice and can hit a Power Note when she needs to, but her lower registry is just so/so. There is a good chance she'll stick around but not quite sure just how long.

Paul McDonald
Idol: Ryan Adams & Song: Come Pick Me Up
Okay Paul, I'm not a fan of Ryan Adams and I'm pretty sure most of Middle America has no clue has who he is too, so I'm gonna be worried about this week.
The pros: very nice and unique voice; looked great; he's different
The cons: boring performance

Pia Toscano
Idol: Celine Dion & Song: All By Myself
You know there are certain songs and singers you get tired of hearing butchered of shows that this and Celine is probably number 1 on that list. I will say Pia sang it well but to me there was nothing new brought to the song. Again, Power Notes were her friends and she will most likely return next week.

James Durbin
Idol: Paul McCarthy & Song: Maybe I'm Amazed
I believe I found my Idol crush for the season, what a freaking cutie!
And he can SING!! A boy after my own heart. This was a solid performance and yes, he is this season's Adam Lambert (which isn't a bad thing). James is very diverse and am looking forward to what he'll do next. Oh, and I totally loved when he smiled and winked at the camera, swoooooon!

Hayley Reinhart
Idol: LeAnne Rimes & Song: Blue
I mentioned earlier about Power Notes and how some of these ladies rely heavy on them, while Hayley here doesn't need to. This girl can sing and I was loving the roughness/scruffiness in her throat. Great tone.
Randy said he thought the song was sleepy, my response, take a nap!

Jacob Lusk
Idol: R. Kelly & Song: I Believe I Can Fly
Here's another one of those Idol song that seem to pop up every year at some point in the competition, but Jacob did try to make it his own. He started off a little shakey but found his footing. Man, this boy has a crazy range and can give Ashton and Pia a run for their money in the Power Note department. Best day in church ever!

Thia Megia
Idol: Michael Jackson & Song: Smile
What Thia has going for her is an amazing tone that is beautifully showcased when she goes Acapella. She has a lot of potential and will do well. But I do believe the pressures of this show is going to take a toll on her sooner rather than later. You saw last week when she was getting her results how shaken up she was and again tonight in her post performance interview her nerves were showing. Being 15 and on a competition like this is never a good combination.

Stefano Langone
Idol: Stevie Wonder & Song: Lately
Again, I wasn't blown away with his "wild card" performance from last week and didn't think he should have been given a spot. So, with that said I think he'll make it through because he did an okay job with the song and was hitting those Power Notes. I do think the dance beat was out of place and I was not surprised when Jennifer praised his performance.

Karen Rodriguez
Idol: Selena & Song: I Could Fall In Love
Chicana Pride! When I heard she was doing Selena I kinda wanted her to sing Bidi Bidi Bom Bom; maybe she won't have struggled so much. There were a lot of problems with the performance and honestly was not feeling it at all, she's gonna be in trouble.

Scotty McCreety
Idol: Garth Brooks & Song: The River
His voice kinda freaks me out, damn that is DEEP! His voice aside, Scotty gave a very solid performance. He is country all the way and I am not the demographic that will be calling in for me.

Naima Adedapo
Idol: Rihanna & Song: Umbrella
Okay, I'm super surprised that Rihanna is her Idol. That aside, the song was pitchy. but I so enjoyed it. Loved the dance moves, loved the Jamaican rap in the middle, and I loved the energy that she was giving us. It ended the show nicely. Whether she makes it through will be up to you America!

Okay kids, final thoughts are that the Guys brought their A game tonight. Like every season song choice is always key, why can't they remember that??

I can see the following in danger to go home tomorrow: Paul, Stefano, Ashton, Lauren A, and Karen.

My precious votes went to James and Naima!

Ear Candy: Favorite Albums of 2010 part 2

And now the rest...


#10: GLEE!
Come on, did you honestly think I'd skip the goodness of Glee?? Not only did the show release 3 full length albums last year, (Glee the Music vol. 3 & 4 and The Christmas Album) we were also treated to 3 EP's for the episode's The Power of Madonna, The Journey to Regionals, and The Rocky Horror Glee Show. Now, if you love the show these soundtracks are a must, but like the show, not everyone will enjoy you blasting these songs over the loud speaker on repeat. Now some of my favorite songs to sing along too didn't make it on these soundtracks, but can be easily downloaded via Itunes/Amazon. Chris Colfer's version of Le Jazz Hot will not disappoint.


#09. Rihanna: Loud
Rihanna's Loud brings her back to the Pop world with a bang, as much as I enjoyed her last release, Rated R, it's nice to see/hear a softer Rihanna. Don't get me wrong, the girl still has some edge and can be a bit naughty, as seen in the track S & M, which starts the album. Besides having some pop gems like Only Girl in the World and What's My Name, we're treated to a reggae infused Man Down and a more Rihanna centric version of Emenim's Love the Way You Lie, which brings this release to its close.


#08. Blood Red Shoes: Fire Like This
This listing is dedicated to my gal pal, Tamara. If it wasn't for her, I would not have discovered the Blood Red Shoes or got the chance to see them perform this past October. Fire like This is the duo's (Laura Mary Carter & Steven Ansell's - he's such a cutie, oh how I heart me English boys) sophomore release and is the perfect mix of modern and classic rock. Both band mates do their fare share of vocals, as heard on these Ear Candy worthy tracks: Heartsink, When We Wake, Don't Ask, Light It Up, and One More Empty Chair.


#07. Simon Curtis: 8Bit Heart
I did a little post on Simon Curtis a while back when his self-produced album 8Bit heart was originally released. I loved it then and am still loving it now. Major props to Mr. Curtis, not only does he have an amazing voice with a killer range, he's uber talented and is a force to be reckoned with. 8Bit Heart is a perfect pop album filled with beats that will get your ass moving. Personal favorites: Delusional, Beat Drop, Super Psycho Love, and the title track 8Bit Heart. I can't wait to see what the future holds for this guy.


#06. Zac Poor: Let's Just Call It Heartbreak
Not only is Zac Poor very easy on the eyes (can you say swoon?), but on the ears as well. I fell in love with his voice when I first heard She'll Be Hearting Hearts, which is an amazing good pop song, but he also can makes me melt, especially while listening to Silver Screens. Let's Just Call it Heartbreak is a 7 track EP which perfectly showcases his voice/range. If you're able to track this disc down, it's a must to own (I purchased mine through Itunes, but it has mysteriously disappears from their databases???) My other faves from the disc are I Don't Wanna Be Alone Tonight and Meet Me By the Stairs. Like Simon Curtis, Zac Poor has a very very bright future ahead.

#05. Scissor Sisters: Night Work
Thank you Scissor Sisters for returning to your Disco Pop roots! Night Work is pure gooey pop fun, filled with tons of fucking rhinestones! This is one of those albums that just gets better with each new listen, I discover new favorites every time. Jake Shears is a force of energy that will not be tamed. Key tracks for your listening pleasure: Invisible Light, Skin Tight, Fire With Fire, Sex & Violence, and Whole New Way.


#04. Goldfrapp: Head First
Allison Goldfrapp, I love you! Head First is a nostalgic trip back to the era of leg warmers, head bands, neon colors, and blue eye shadow called the 80's; filled with synthpop beats that give you those feel good feeling only the songs on 1984 can give you. It's like listening to a soundtrack from a cheesy teen comedy where the only saving grace was the music. Do you feel me? Head First is filled with wonderful gems including Rocket, Dreaming, Believer, Alive, and it's title track, Head First.


#03. Janelle Monae: The ArchAndroid
Janelle Monae is a breath of fresh air, I say this because I feel every song on the radio of late sounds identical, with the same auto tuned voice singing to the same backing beat. So it was nice to actually hear an artists voice and Janelle Monae has a beautiful one, which she uses to bring you into the futuristic world of Cybergals and star cross lovers she's created for The Chase Suite (the overall concept for this album and her previous EP Metropolis). I miss concept albums. The ArchAndroid showcases just how talented Janelle Monae is, tracks that are worth a listen; Wondaland, Mushrooms & Roses, Tightrope, Locked Inside, Cold War, and Sir Greendown.


#02. The Limousines: Get Sharp
Get Sharp is a wild ride (get it, cause they are called The Limousines... oh forget it), taking the listener on an emotional journey. From start to finish this album does not disappoint. The album could be broken into two halves (Side A and B), with Side A on the "lighter side"; yes, I do see the irony in this with a song like Dancing at her funeral as track 2. But take a track like Very Busy People, here we find a perfect example of what I'm talking about, the entire song is about getting together and enjoying the friends you have and the new people you will meet along the way. And Side B is a little darker and harder, as you can hear on songs like Get Sharp, Fine Art, and my personal favorite Swrdswllngwhr (wishing well). These later tracks channel the New-Wave, Electro-Pop goodness my goth heart craves. So, whatever your mood calls for Get Sharp is the perfect disc to ease you through the day.

and my favorite album of 2010 goes to...
MARINA & THE DIAMONDS: THE FAMILY JEWELS


It's no surprise that Marina and the Diamonds got the number 1 spot, since discovering her I've listened to this album countless times and have forced many people to listen along with me. Marina and the Diamonds' debut album The Family Jewels is an amazing piece of pop music. I loved it after the first listen and still love it with now with my (infinity number) listen. Marina has an amazing voice, it's beautiful and mesmerizing as displayed on these jewels; Mowgli's Road, I Am Not a Robot, Oh No!, Hollywood, and Rootless (this track is only available on the deluxe version). If you are lucky enough to see her perform live, you will not be disappointed. Marina is an amazing live performer.

Ear Candy: Favorite Albums of 2010 part 1

Now that we're two weeks into the new year, I find this to be the perfect time to start my list of the albums I overplayed, warn out, and annoyed everyone I know with. Now without further ado here is The Haus of Envy's favorite albums of 2010 part 1 #20-#11.



#20. TIE: The Vampire Diaries Soundtrack & Twilight Saga: Eclipse Soundtrack
Vampires were big this year (really when aren't they big?) and these two soundtracks found there way into my collection, damn them for having some amazing songs.
Personal favorite: (VD) Goldfrapp's We Radiate
Personal favorite: (TSE) Florence & the Machine's Heavy In Our Arms (this song by the way was my absolute favorite song of 2010).


#19. Karen Elson: The Ghost Who Walks
This was one of those albums that I picked up, enjoyed, but never really came back to. The title track is haunting and beautiful and worth taking a listen too.



#18. V.V. Brown: Travelling Like the Light
British Pop/Soul singers have become the rage the past few years and V.V. Brown is one to watch out for. Travelling like the light is a fun ride, check out the following ear candy delights: Back in Time, Game Over, and Shark in the Water. I'd also recommend tracking down her amazing cover of The Smith's classic This Charming Man.


#17. Nicki Minaj: Pink Friday
Anyone who knows me, knows that Hip-Hop/Rap is not a genre I frequent in, so I was pleasantly surprise to find myself picking up Pink Friday. Honestly, I didn't think I was gonna like it at all, but by the second go around I found myself enjoying Ms. Minaj, she's quite the character. Her voice is beautiful and hard, my favorite tracks include Save Me, Your Love, Fly, Check it Out, and Blazin'.


#16. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Soundtrack
If you loved the movie, the soundtrack was a must have, an awesome collection of new and old. Plus, I got my first listen to the band Blood Red Shoes with their amazing rock track It's Getting Boring by the Sea and Metric's version of The Clash at Demonhead's song, Black Sheep, is an must have download too.


#15. Neon Trees: Habits
I love me bands with a heavy new-wave influence and the Neon Trees definitely channel the 80's bands I love. This 8 track EP is filled with some great gems, that you will easily find yourself humming along too. Robyn, had quite the year. She released 3, yes 3, albums throughout the year, all of which are amazing pop albums. Her latest release Body Talk brings together the best tracks from her previous two albums (Body Talk pt. 1 & 2) with 5 brand new tracks. Your body will be moving along to the beat. Tracks that will get you moving: Dancing on my Own, Hang with Me, U Should Know Better, and Indestructible*.

#13. Kylie Minogue: Aphrodite
Kylie and Pop music are two tastes that were made for each other, and Aphrodite is truly an amazing piece of pop music. From the opening tracks of All the Lovers and Get Out of My Way, through Illusion (the standout track and I'm not just saying that because it so happens to be my favorite) to the finale of Can't Beat This Feeling, Kylie takes you an a Pop ride that will bring a smile to your face.


#12. Dragonette: Mixin' to Thrill
Dragonette is one of those bands you come across and think why haven't I been listened to them? They are amazing! This past summer saw the release of Mixin' to Thrill, a remix album of the band's 2009 release Fixin' to Thrill, which once discovered was on an endless loop on my Ipod, that's how good it is. But, I digress, along with a ton of new remixes, Dragonette also included 3 new tracks (Volcano, Our Summer, and My Things) to Mixin' to Thrill and they are filled with all the electro pop goodness a kid could ask for. Two Thumbs way UP!


#11. Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson: Original Cast Album
Musical theatre is one of my passions, I just can't get enough of it. So, a musical about our 7th president, Andrew Jackson (he's on the $20, people) wasn't exactly high on my list, but once I did a little research and discovered it was set to modern rock music ala Spring Awakening I was intrigued. So, how happy was I to be given this cast album as a gift this year?? Very! Now, the albums running time is around 30 minutes or so, but it's so damn good, you want to hear it again. If/when this show starts touring I'll be line buying up seats and you should be too.

Marina & the Diamonds will make your ears very HAPPY!

Harry Envy here, have you missed me????? Life got the better of me these last few months with work and schedule changes, but I'm back and would like to welcome you to the all new, all different, yet still the same Haus of Envy. Since my last post I've been discovering tons of new music and will begin this week with one of my new favorite obsessions Marina & the Diamonds.



It has been awhile since an artist/musician has really spoken to me the way Marina has. The fates were on my side the week Marina released her debut album titled The Family Jewels. Not only was her song "I am not a Robot" the free single of the week on Itunes, but two different pop culture/music blogs had posted on the album and expressed how much they loved it. So, of course I clicked open my Itunes and looked up the album and honestly I wasn't sure if I was gonna like her. Then this happened, Blogger Arjan Writes had posted a free MP3 of her cover of 3OH3!'s Starstrukk and I feel in love. It was really that simple, I was in awe of her voice. Okay, back to business. Now that you've listened to her as well you can see why I've
gonna all crazy in love. This only intensified when I saw Marina perform live this past summer and again earlier this month. What an amazing performer, she draws you in, holds your attention and leaves you wanting so much more. And one of her band mates is a cutie, but that is besides the point. Marina has made me a fan for life and I see nothing but amazing things in her future.

Idol Envy: Top 7 - People Get Ready + Idol Gives Back/Results

This week is the annual Idol Gives Back Charity Show, which makes tonight's theme Inspirational Songs with their mentor Alicia Keys.

Casey James ~ Don't Stop
Actually, Casey please stop!! Tonight Casey brought nothing new to the stage, he sounded good and his guitar playing was excellent and that was about it. At this stage of the game these contestants need to bring it and have each performance be better than the last. These last two weeks have been blah and the boy is in jeopardy of being in the bottom three this week.

Lee Dewyze ~ The Boxer
I was a little worried for Lee this week, America broke up the Bromance last week and he took it pretty hard (hee hee for double entendres). Anyway, Lee sounded amazing tonight, one of his best performances on the Idol stage. Lee stepped up his game and each week is getting stronger. I'll be honest, Lee is slowing becoming the boy to beat.

Tim Urban ~ Better Days
Tim certainly has had some better days, the little engine that could may be facing elimination this week. I did enjoy his performance, I feel Tim has finally found a niche in his vocal styling, but like Casey this week this performance was nothing new. I have seen an improvement in his voice since he re-entered the Top 24 all those weeks back and that smile gets my black heart all melty, but all things come to an end and this week will be Tim's last.

Aaron Kelly ~ I Believe I Can Fly
This is a huge song for Aaron and he needs to knock it out of the ballpark to be safe this week, sadly it was a little too big for him. He struggled with the song in the beginning but had quite an amazing finish, but overall it wasn't his best performance.

Siobhan Magnus ~ When You Believe
This wasn't my favorite performance and I love this girl. It was a huge song to start off with and she didn't quite capture that, I will say she sounded beautifully and looked stunning per usual. Simon said it was odd and all over the place, I'll be honest those are the qualities I find that make Siobhan so great in my book, hence why I love her.

Michael Lynche ~ Hero
Oh Michael, the judges saved you and you are not delivering the goods. This was an alright performance, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. Michael does really well on those love song/high falsetto numbers; when you goes for the soft rock it doesn't always come across to the audience. I think he'll be safe but next week he needs to step up his game, like 200%.

Crystal Bowersox ~ People Get Ready
Can they just give this girl the title already, because really who else deserves it?? Crytsal stripped down tonight with just a mice and her voice (her most powerful weapon) and delivered the best performance of the night; blowing everyone out of the water and across the state. Now this is the way to end a show!

I will be completely honest, I cheated and peaked at all the blogs on the East Coast because I really didn't want to sit through the Idol Gives Back show, I know I'm a terrible person. Good thing I didn't since the show ran an extra 25 minutes long!!!
I did turn in at the end to hear the results.

Anyway here's the good stuff, after last nights less than inspirational night of music I know Crystal and Lee will be moving onto the Top 6, but the remaining 5 are all in jeopardy. Side note: During the first Idol Gives Back show no contest was eliminated that night; the votes carried over to the next week were two contestants were let go. That stopped the second year and we were informed tonight that we will be saying bye bye to someone. So, who will it be...

First up is Casey vs. Crystal. This is a no-brainer, Crystal delivered the best performance last night and of course she was gonna be safe.

Next up is Lee vs. Aaron. Another no-brainer, Lee's performance was twenty times better than Aaron's I am not surprised Aaron joined Casey in the Bottom 3.

The remaining three: Siobhan, Michael, and Tim are brought center stage and Siobhan is the first to be told she'll be making the Top 6 (my votes did matter). Even though I enjoyed Tim's performance better than Mike's I knew Tim was gonna be in the Bottom 3 this week.

So the Bottom 3 ended up being Casey, Aaron, and Tim. Ryan informs Aaron his safe leaving me hoping that Ryan calls Casey's name as the Idol going home tonight. Sadly, my eye candy this year will be leaving me. Your bright smile, dreamy eyes, and shaggy hair will be missed next week Mr. Urban, it's been a fun ride.

Next week we find Shania Twain back as the mentor as the Top 6 sing her songbook. Whoever chooses You're Still the One better not fuck it up!

Forrest Gump got it all wrong, Life is not like a box of chocolates, Goldfrapp is because you never know what you are about to listen too. On their fifth studio album, Goldfrapp returns to the eighties with a pure pop explosion; the album sounds like a soundtrack from the eighties. Head First is filled with nostalgia, beats that will get you off your ass and moving, and a yearning for some awesome mashups. Allison Goldfrapp has never sounded better.

Every so often Itunes will have a free single that is worth the listen. Itunes spotlighted the Neon Trees single Animal a few weeks back and I downloaded it and instantly fall in love with the band. Neon Trees were discovered by the Killers and fall into the same genre of modern new wave. The debut album Habits is a collection of pop, new wave, and rock. A band to watch, I see great things in their future.

Idol Envy: Top 9 Redux I Can't Help Falling in Love + Elimination Night

Last week the Judges used there Save on poor Michael Lynche, whose performance of the Beatles classic Eleanor Rigby left the voters at home forgetting to dial his number. So, this week the Top 9 give it their all once more. But remember, at tomorrow nights results show we will be saying bye-bye to not just 1 Idol but 2.

This week's mentor is none other than last season's Glam Rock God(dess) Adam Lambert, let's hope Mr. Lambert can bring out the energy that this year's grouping seems to be misplacing. This week's theme is the songs of Elvis!

Crystal Bowersox ~ Saved
So, this wasn't my favorite performance by Mama Sox. Needless to say, she still sounded great and killed it like she always does. She still is the girl to beat and tonight was no different.

Andrew Garcia ~ Hound Dog
Okay, I was bored with that performance. The Andrew I liked and semi-adored lost his way a few weeks back. Last week he was cheesy, and this week it was a bad karaoke (Randy agreed). Andrew did not won the stage and his star persona/quality is fading fast.

Tim Urban ~ I Can't Help Falling In Love
Wow, that was really nice and tender. Tim is coming into his own as a artist, who would have thunk it? Now, Tim may have been kept around with the help of the website votefortheworst.com, but it is Tim who has shown an improvement in his vocals, song choices and confidence. I believe Tim may last longer in this competition than anyone expects.

Lee Dewyze ~ A Little Less Conversation
Lee pushed himself this week with his performance and it worked; Lee has shown improvement since his first performance. He still needs to work on being more loose on stage, still coming across as stiff.

Aaron Kelly ~ Blue Suede Shoes
Aaron has the potential to be really great; he just needs to realize that himself. His confidence wavers and that hurts his performances. Tonight he started off shaky, but had a really nice finish. I think Aaron may be in jeopardy, if he stays he needs to step up his game.

Siobhan Magnus ~ Suspicious Minds
I love this girl!! The problem I had with this performance was that it sounded like two different songs/singers. In the end I feel she did a great job. Simon was a little hard on her tonight, but I loved Siobhan's response to his questioning her identity, "Even I can't pinpoint who or what I am, and I've always taken pride in that." You said it, girlfriend.

Michael Lynche ~ In the Ghetto
In the Ghetto is probably my favorite Elvis song and figured this would be the perfect song for Michael's voice. He did an amazing job; it was soft and sweet. A great story sung beautifully.

Katie Stevens ~ Baby What Do You Want Me To Do
Her performance tonight was awesome; she killed it! Vocally I heard a little country in her voice and thought she sounded a little bit like Carrie Underwood. Little Katie's growing up.

Casey James ~ Lawdy Miss Cloudy
I'll be honest, even through I enjoyed his performance last week, I am not a Casey fan. And this performance didn't help. It was boring and he played it very safe. He needed to take a chance this week and he brought nothing new to the stage.

Side Note: What was up with Ryan tonight? It looked like he found some of Paula's old pills and downed a few before the show.

It's Elimination Night and tonight we lose two Idol hopefuls, so which two do I think will be saying goodbye???
I think Andrew will definitely be one of the two saying goodbye tonight. The other will be tricking, I'm thinking Aaron, Casey, and maybe Siobhan (I hope I am wrong) will round out a bottom three tonight. Let's see how it goes.


Back to business; the first group taking center stage is Casey, Aaron, and Andrew. After a few moments of Ryan rambling on it is confirmed that Andrew is the first to go home tonight. Andrew was a favorite of mine early on, but over the course of the competition I lost interest in him. And did you see Lee's face when Ryan said Andrew was going home?? It looked like someone killed his puppy.

Oh look Brooke White is back and she brought Miley's ex with her....

The remaining six contestants are brought onto the stage and after each is reviewed, Ryan informs Crystal, Siobhan, and Lee that they too are safe leaving Tim, Mike, and Katie to wonder which of them is in jeopardy.

Quick break which brings Adam Lambert back to the Idol stage performing his current single Whataya Want From Me.

The "bottom" three return to the center of the stage and Tim is the first to return the the safety of the couches. Leaving Katie and Mike with Ryan; there is a part of me that kinda wants Mike to get eliminated just as an FU to the judges, but alas little miss Katie will be leaving us tonight. I thought Katie did a great job last night and didn't think she would be saying goodbye just yet.

Next week is the annual Idol Gives Back Charity Event with the theme of Inspirational songs. Prepare to be uplifted next Tuesday.

Idol Envy: Top 9 The Long and Winding Road + Elimination Night

This week the Top 9 will tackle the Songs of Lennon/McCarthy. Since this week was mentorless, the producers used that time to allow the contestant to give us the audience a little inside peak on their interactions. (like I really care.)

Now onto the good stuff....

Aaron Kelly ~ The Long and Winding Road
Aaron started out rough, he had pitch problems throughout the song. I felt like this song didn't fit his voice, was a little to big for him. Overall, it was a bit boring. He needs to switch things up. The past few weeks he has been giving us the same performance; I want to see a new side of his personality, one with a little more energy. He will be in jeopardy this week of going home.

Katie Stevens ~ Let It Be
This is a huge song, can little miss Katie pull it off? Katie gave this song her all and I thought she sounded beautiful. This was the right song for her and she did it justice. Katie is growing up before our eyes, she's becoming quite the individual and artist. Great job.

Andrew Garcis ~ Can't Buy Me Love
Andrew has always given off a rockabilly vibe and tonight his performance oozed it. I don't know what to think about the performance as a whole. It was extremely cheesy, but in a good way. Vocally, he sounded good, not great. The performance was high energy, which is a plus.

Michael Lynche ~ Eleanor Rigby
This is my favorite Beatles song; Michael don't fuck it up!! This is probably my favorite performance by Michael, I am digging this rendition. This is the Michael I enjoy watching, love song Michael bores me.

Crystal Bowersox ~ Come Together
This was the right song, really the only song she should have done. This was a killer performance with amazing vocals. The complete package. Mama Sox is taking this competition by storm.

Tim Urban ~ All My Lovin'
Tim is a funny one. I can't help but love this guy. This week he wasn't bad, his voice and hair style was a throw back to the fifties and sixties. This was a straightforward performance and I will admit I bobbed my head along to the song.

Casey James ~ Jealous Guy
This is the first time I actually enjoyed Casey's performance. This was the perfect song for him, vocally I was reminded of Eddie Veder, and he showed off a different side of him: a gentle side. This is by far Casey's best performance. Was this enough to convert me, not completely but I enjoyed him more than I have in the past.

Siobhan Magnus ~ Across the Universe
This is my second favorite Beatles song. Ms. Siobhan was simply magificent; she looked stunning and sounded amazing, and she did not belt out a single note. The judges said it was sleepy, I won't call it sleepy, it was more like a lullaby.

Lee Dewyze ~ Hey Jude
This week I felt Lee maintained; this performance was middle of the pack. He had the energy, but vocally I felt nothing special. Don't get me wrong, I do think he sounded good, but I just wanted more. The past few weeks he's had some killer performances and I wanted this one to be on that level. Overall I think he'll be around next week.

So, Beatles night is over and done. Elimination will be tricky this week, will have to think hard and review.

It's Elimination Night and after thinking about it over and discussing last night's performance with friends I feel the following three will be in trouble, Aaron, Tim, and Andrew (Lee might possibly replace one of these three).

Ryan is promising shocking results, let's see how true.

Ryan brings the final three girls center stage first and informs Crystal she is safe. Leaving Katie and Siobhan to wonder if one of them is in the bottom, luckily neither are in the bottom both are safe.

Ryan then splits the guys into two groups:
Group A is Lee, Casey, and Tim
Group B is Michael, Aaron, and Andrew.

Based on their performances last night, I'm thinking Group B is in trouble, and I am right. Ryan tells Aaron he is safe (I thought Aaron was the one to go) leaving Michael and Andrew center stage. Judging by their previous performances throughout the competition I think Andrew is saying bye-bye... I was wrong. Big Mike had the lowest votes?? I'm shocked (Ryan was right) Eleanor Rigby may not have been Michael's best performance but I didn't think it was the worst of the night.

For his farewell song he chose to sing A Woman's Worth, remember this is the song that brought Kara to tears, and of course Michael killed it. This is the right song for his voice, I'm not a huge fan of love song Michael, but he did an amazing job.
The judges voted and agreed that it was great and used the save to keep Michael in another week.

Since the save was used this week it is no longer in play. This means next week we say goodbye to two Idol hopefuls.

Idol Envy: Top 10 What Becomes of the Broken Hearted + Elimination Night

This week's theme was R&B with their mentor Usher. Let's see who fucked this week up.

Siobhan Magnus ~ Through the Fire
Siobhan, honey this was not your night. I love this girl and will be calling till my fingers bleed. She has the talent, she just had an off night. There were pitch problems that we could not escape from, her killer high notes were amazing and I loved them. It's her signature thing, people are either gonna love it or hate it. I felt her nerves took over tonight, here's hoping America gives this girl some love because she deserves to stay.

Casey James ~ Hold On I'm Coming
Still not a fan. With that said, that was a great performance. He was in his element and you could feel the energy. I do prefer a more rocker Casey than the laid back surfer Casey. Song choice was great, this song has a great melody that is super catchy and will be stuck in my head through the commercial break.

Michael Lynche ~ Ready for Love
Girls, they be swooning. I can not deny that Michael has an amazing voice, this was a stellar performance. Michael is one of the best guys in this competition. His ballads are great, and he reminds me of Luther Vandross.

Didi Benami ~ What Becomes of the Broken Hearted
Didi quit crying!! First off, I thought Didi looked stunning. Secondly, it wasn't a bad performance, but wished their was more. Didi has never been a favorite of mine and honestly I don't think her voice is as strong as some of the other girls. I think if Siobhan had chosen that song she would have killed it, Didi's flat lined. I feel she's in danger of going home; if not this week than very soon.

Tim Urban ~ Sweet Love
I have a lot of friends who can't stand Tim and I know the website www.Votefortheworst.com has chosen Tim has their Idol poster boy this year. I highly recommend checking out the site, it's hilarious. But to be honest he's not as terrible has we think; granted he's not amazing, but at least he's trying. This week's performance was on the boring side and he's been holding on by a thread in this competition since he started, so will this be Tim's final week? Will have to wait and see.

Andrew Garcia ~ Forever
FINALLY!!!! Now this is the Andrew Garcia that I remember. This was the perfect song, it was a great performance, and has proven why he deserves to be here. Now, next week he needs to maintain this level of goodness and I will agree with Simon, Andrew needs to show more personality. Oh, and Mama Garcia is awesome!

Katie Stevens ~ Chain of Fools
Katie is getting better, she still has some work to do; but overall I can't help but not like this girl. I enjoyed her song choice and I see her potential. The judges still seem to waver between the direction she should take as an artist, if she's still around when Idol goes Country we'll see if Simon is right.

Lee Dewyze ~ Treat Her Like a Lady
Last week, Lee hit a turning point and this week he continued on the path. This was by far Lee's best performance. I felt his energy, his vocals were solid and he sounded great. I go back and forth with Lee, I like him but I'm not totally in love with him; overall, I was entertained tonight.

Crystal Bowersox ~ Midnight Train to Georgia
Crystal changed it up this week by dropping the guitar and put herself behind a piano, she did a beautiful job. I wasn't a fan at first but each week Crystal is growing on me. She is so well rounded and polished. One of the best performances of the night.

Aaron Kelly ~ Ain't No Sunshine
Last year, this was the song that proved Kris Allen could take the competition. Will it hold the same for Aaron? He had some issues with the vocals in the beginning but as the song went he found his footing. He has potential and America loves this kid so he'll be back next week.

Another Idol show is done, and it was an improvement over last weeks show. Best performances of the night went to Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze.
Worst of the night go to Didi Benami and Siobhan Magnus (I don't like writing Siobhan and worst in the same sentence.)

Who gets my vote: Siobhan, she is better than this performance and needs my love and support.

It's Elimination Night!!!
My predictions going into tonight's elimination are of the following, Didi and Tim and my definite choices, with the third being either Katie or Siobhan (I'm hoping if it is Siobhan, she's the first to go back to the couches).

Let's see how this plays out....

Seat 1 went to Katie (I was a little scared since Siobhan was put on the spot with Katie and did you see how shocked she was? I seriously think she thought she was going home after last night's performance.)
Seat 2 went to Didi - not surprised
Seat 3 went to smiling Tim Urban - again, are we really surprised Tim is in the bottom another week?

Once the three are assembled center stage, Ryan sends Katie back to the couches. Now between the two remaining Idols, Didi should stay, but I feel Tim may be with us another week. And I'm right.

So, Didi gets her final chance to sway the judges. For her final song she chose to perform Rhiannon. This song was perfect for her voice and she sounded great, but I had a feeling that the judges weren't going to use the save on her. Again, I was right.

Idol Envy Top 11: You're No Good + Elimination Night

Every week is a big week for these contestants, but tonight the 10 who move on will become the Idols you will be seeing on this year's upcoming Idol tour, so the pressure is on and many cracked under it this week.

This week's theme was Billboard's #1 hits with their mentor... Miley Cyrus??? Whatever.

Lee Dewyze ~ The Letter
Lee has finally broken out of his shell. Our resident rocker went the big band route with his rendition of the Letter. He did a great job on his vocals and he looked like he was enjoying himself on stage.

Paige Miles ~ Against All Odds
Why, oh why does Paige chose these big songs? I'm sorry but that was terrible, Paige should have gone home last week; Lacey's performance may have been boring but at least she sounded good. Paige has been lost since she entered the Top 24. The judge's kept reminding us that Paige has a great voice, but I think they are lying. Paige needs to go.

Tim Urban ~ Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Oh Tim, you are taking a huge, huge risk by doing Queen. At least you look like you're having fun on stage because vocally there was nothing special there. He's the weakest of the guys, but Paige is so much worse.

Aaron Kelly ~ I Don't Want to Miss a Thing
That was a great performance and the boy was sick. Aaron did a bang up job. This was the perfect choice for his voice, he's been pretty good at choosing the right songs for his vocal range.

Crystal Bowersox ~ Me and Bobby McGee
What a perfect song for Ms. Bowersox. Crystal is extremely comfortable on that stage and each week it shows. Great performance. My only negative critique, I hated her outfit.

Michael Lynche ~ When a Man Loves a Woman
Michael can sing sappy love songs, he did a great job tonight, his falsetto was working tonight. Even though he sounded great, I was a bit bored.

Andrew Garcia ~ Heard It Through the Grapevine
Andrew is a funny one. He peaked super early and has been chasing that moment the last few weeks. Sad to say this week was nothing special. His vocals were okay, but I know he can do better. Also, this wasn't the best song for him.

Katie Stevens ~ Big Girls Don't Cry
Sometimes I forget Katie is only 17, her voice is just so mature. She had a few pitch problems but overall she did a good job.

Casey James ~ Power of Love
I was slightly entertained with Casey's performance this week (last week I was bored, so this is a good thing). I didn't like this song for him, he didn't bring anything new to the song he sounded just like Huey. In general, I'm not a huge fan of Casey, this might be because I'm not a cougar and his allure hasn't mesmerized me.

Didi Benami ~ You're No Good
I waver when it comes to Didi. I'm not a fan (she doesn't excite me) but I think she has a unique voice. With tonight's performance, I liked the concept, it just was not executed well. Didi may be finding herself in the bottom three this week.

Siobhan Magnus ~ Superstition
It's safe to say by now you know I love me Ms. Siobhan, and this week it is no different. Siobhan has been channeling Adam Lambert and I am loving it. I do agree with Simon that Siobhan's performances will split her voters, either you are gonna love it or hate it. Overall, Siobhan has a voice on her that I can not get enough of.

Predictions going into tonight's elimination are Paige, Tim, and Andrew (or Didi) rounding out this week's bottom three. Here's how it went.

Big surprise that these two are the first ones in the bottom 3 tonight.
3) Katie - okay, I did not think she'd be in this spot this week.

First to return to the safe couches... Katie (because she didn't deserve to be there in the first place)

So who went home.. Paige (Finally!)

So, Paige was told she would not be saved this week and with the pressure off she actually sounded great. Now where was this girl the last few weeks?? Needless to say, even if the judge's were going to offer her the chance of the save her performances the last few weeks were not those of an Idol.

Idol Envy: Top 12 - You Can't Always Get What You Want + Elimination Night!

I'm still a little upset over last week's eliminations, miss ya Alex! Okay, the Top 12 hits the stage this week by singing the songs of the Rolling Stones. Let's see how they did.

Michael Lynche performed Miss You
Michael has a very nice falsetto, he has stage presence, and energy. He made the song soulful, vocally Michael sounded like James Brown; this is not a bad thing. Overall, this was a great way to start this round of competition.

Didi Benami performed Play with Fire
This was the perfect song for Didi's voice, it worked very well. This was her best performance since entering the Top 24; but I did feel like she was trying a little too hard with this performance.

Casey James performed It's All Over Now
Was I the only person bored with Casey's performance?? He's so much better than this. Vocally it was good and he sounded nice but it was a little safe.

Lacey Brown performed Ruby Tuesday
Lacey chose another slow song, I wished she would have chosen to start slow and then pick up the beat. Vocally, this was one of Lacey's best performances and her voice is growing on me. On the performance side, it was safe, but still good.

Andrew Garcia performed Gimme Shelter
Oh Andrew, what are we gonna do with you? Andrew has a powerful voice and had a few key moments with his performance. But something was off, and i can't really put a finger on what it was.

Katie Stevens performed Wild Horses
This was a great song for Katie's vocal range. I think she did a stellar job. It started off a little weak but had a great finish. I think Katie's biggest issue is the judge's inconsistencies with her critiques.

Tim Urban performed Under My Thumb
Tim has shown a lot of improvement these last few weeks. He chose a reggae version of Under My Thumb, which the judges didn't quite love. I thought it worked for him.

Siobhan Magnus performed Paint It Black
A-Maz-Ing!!! This girl blows me again every week. I loved the down tempo, melancholy, dramatic fill she brings to the competition. Her range is amazing and is very Lambert-esque. Best performance of the night, totally going to Itunes and downloading this performance.

Lee Dewyze performed Beast of Burden
Vocally Lee's voice is nothing we haven't heard before, but it's great nonetheless. I wasn't wowed by his performance, it felt safe. I think he still needs to break out of his shell, felt like he was holding back.

Paige Miles performed Honky Tonk Woman
Paige has yet to wow me. This song did fit Paige's voice better, but it sounded off. It sounded off due to Paige having laryngitis. Overall, Paige did a better job this week, but I feel her time on Idol is reaching its end.

Aaron Kelly performed Angie
This was a much better performance than last week. Aaron has a really great voice and did a fantastic job with this performance.

Crystal Bowersox performed You Can't Always Get What You Want
Crystal made this song her own. Another great performance. Crystal is one of the best girls in the competition; win or loss she'll come out on top.

Best Performance on the night goes to Siobhan Magnus!

Predictions going into tonight's eliminations are: Paige Miles and Tim Urban, I'm having a hard time picking a third.

First Idol to enter the bottom three: Paige Miles, followed by Tim Urban and finally Lacey Brown.
And the first to be granted safety... Tim Urban, who always looks shocked when ever he is told he's safe (very cute).

Personally, I think Paige will be the one going home tonight.

So, which Idol had to sing for there life... Lacey Brown (sad face).

Lacey was given another shot at remaining in the competition by singing for the judge's one last time hopping they would use the Judge's Save one her. How the Judge's Save works is as follows; the eliminated Idol will perform one more time for the judges and if all four judges agree the contestant will remain in the competition. The Judge's Save can only be used once, so they will be very picky on who gets it. Last year, the contestant had to sing the song from the previous nights performance, this year it can be any song already performed. Lacey chose to sing her Top 16 song, The Story. It was an alright performance, but wasn't strong enough. Of course, the judges chose to not use the save this week.

Idol Envy: Top 16 pt. 3 - "So Long Farewell" It's Elimination Night

Tonight the game changes, the Top 12 will be revealed and the true stars will begin to shine.

Group 1: Didi Benami, Katelyn Epperly, Siobhan Magnus, and Paige Miles
And the first two ladies to join this years Top 12 are Didi and Siobhan (YES!!!!)
Leaving Paige and Katelyn, we know one is moving on. Based on the last three weeks I would guess Katelyn is the third girl going through tonight, I guessed wrong. Paige makes it into the Top 12 and Katelyn will sing her swan song.
Yes, Katelyn's performance last night was weak, very safe, and not her best, but vocally I thought she did a much better job than Paige. This competition is known for their shockers. Let's see how the first group of guys fair.

Group 2: Tim Urban, Todrick Hall, Lee Dewyze, and Casey James
Casey and Tim (yay, I get dreamy eyes for another week) are the first set of guys to enter the Top 12.
Thus, leaving Todrick and Lee center stage. Of the two, Todrick has been choosing big songs and not delivering on them. Last night he did a better job, but I feel he just isn't gonna make it through, this time I am right.

Group 3: Crystal Bowersox, Lacey Brown, Michael Lynche, and Aaron Kelly
Crystal is the next girl to enter the top 12 (this was a no brainer). She's followed by another obvious choice, Michael Lynche. Lacey Brown is brought to the center stage and told she too has made the top 12. Aaron Kelly takes Lacey's place at the center of the stage. Aaron had a rocky performance last night, but America sees the potential in him and votes him through to the top 12.

Group 4: Alex Lambert and Andrew Garcia/Katie Stevens and Lilly Scott
The first two brought to the center of the stage are Alex and Andrew. I really would have preferred to see two other contestants at this moment. Alex's has shown improvement each week and gave a solid performance last night. Andrew hit a pinnacle during Hollywood week, which we haven't seen him repeat since, but he has a great voice. So who did America chose? Andrew Garcia. I am so gonna miss Alex, I love his voice, dorkiness, and even his stupid mullet.

Next up, Katie Stevens and Lilly Scott get brought center. Last night Katie's performance was not good, on the upside she chose a young song it just was not the right young song. Katie took the judge's previous critiques and applied them to her performance, but the payoff just wasn't there. Lilly, on the other hand did a much better job, in retrospective her performance of I Fall to Pieces may not have been the right song at this stage of the competition. So who stays? Lilly who has star potential or Katie the young girl with the mature voice. My choice would be Lilly, America did not agree with me.

This years Top 12 has been chosen. I'm sad to see Alex and Lilly go, but I have to remind myself that in the end there is only one winner. And with this show, sometimes losing can be the best thing for your career.

Idol Envy: Top 16 pt. 2 - The Boys are Back in Town

The Boys are back! The A game was brought and a few more busted from the pack.

~ Lee Dewyze performed Fireflies
At this stage of the competition, risks need to be taken. Lee took one by singing Owl City's Fireflies as a rock song. It worked, but I still love the original better. Lee had a few pitch issues, but overall he did a good job. He will make Top 12.

~ Alex Lambert performed Trouble
This was Alex's best performance so far. Alex's confidence grows each week, he keeps getting better. This was a simple song that he played beautifully. I do agree with the judges, Alex just needs to relax on stage. Other than that, he's in the Top 12.

~ Tim Urban performed Hallelujah
Many people wrote Tim off after his terrible performance of Apologize, but strangely Tim has gotten better. This song is overplayed on Idol and his rendition wasn't anything spectacular, but he did a great job none the less. He just needs to stop singing preachy songs. Tim may actually make the Top 12.

~ Andrew Garcia performed Genie in a Bottle
Andrew was an early favorite, but his last few performances haven't been up to par. He took a risk with his song choice this week, and it may have paid off for him. Andrew's a contender and has a great voice. He should be in the Top 12, hopefully America agrees.

~ Casey James performed You'll Think of Me
Casey gave us an honest performance, a little safe, but overall great. Casey is one of the top guys in the competition and Top 12 has been in his reach since the beginning.

~ Aaron Kelly performed I'm Already There
Aaron's young and has a very nice voice for a 16 year old. He started off shaky but had a nice finish. He came across nervous, still not quite as comfortable on the stage. I think Aaron may be getting axed this week.

~ Todrick Hall performed Somebody to Love
Todrick has been taking risks with his song choices, again he chose a huge song to take on, but the question is did it pay off? Personally, he did not blow me away. This was his best performance, a bit theatrical, but in the end he did a good job. I felt he was trying to channel Adam Lambert for this performance. Will Todrick make Top 12? Will find out tomorrow night.

~ Michael Lynche performed Women's Work
Michael took a huge, huge risk with this song and it paid off! Michael is the guy to beat. I was quite surprised by this performance, he did a fantastic job. The best of the night!!

All the guys did good tonight, which makes my predictions for those going home a little harder. I believe Todrick Hall and Aaron Kelly will be the two going home, but would not be surprised if Tim Urban or Andrew Garcia got booted instead.

My votes went to Alex Lambert and I gave Tim Urban a few votes (I'm entranced by his dreamy eyes).
